We need protection from all that is causing us harm or pain. All the terror and damage that we see happening in the world on a physical level is a result of emotional turbulence. A soul with deep thoughts of lust will indulge in impure acts; a soul with greed will indulge in theft; a soul with aggression will indulge in violence. The 5 vices – lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego are the causes of emotional suffering of the soul, and when these come out into action, we cause harm to others too. ➔Each soul needs to protect itself from ego, lust, anger, irritation, jealousy, obsession, greed, hatred, hurt, attachment, criticism, domination, manipulation ... the list is long. Being open hearted today seems to require tremendous courage. It is courage that comes only when we realise that no one can hurt us, no matter what they say or do. They may hurt the physical body, but if we have realised "I am the soul/spirit", nothing outside can touch me or affect my existence. Little by little, practice opening your heart to those you think have hurt you. Realise it wasn’t them that hurt you, it was yourself. And it taught you not to trust and you closed your heart. We should not talk to others about people’s weaknesses and their incorrect actions. 8 ● An axe, rope and lotus are shown in Sri Ganesh’s hands and his one hand is giving blessings. Axe represents the power to cut negative habits. Rope is symbolic of remaining tied to the discipline of a pure lifestyle. Lotus life means living in the muddy surroundings but untouched and pure. The hand of blessings means irrespective of how others behave, our thoughts and words for them should only be a blessing. 9 ● He is shown sitting with one leg touching the ground and other folded. This is a reminder for us to remain grounded and humble. To be in the world and yet detached from it. 10 ● The modak placed in one of his hands represents success as a result of hard work. But he is never shown eating it, which means achieve success but don’t take credit for it.
