Money and spirituality often seem like strange companions—one rooted in the material world, the other rising toward the divine. But in truth, they’re not enemies; they’re part of the same journey. While money sustains our physical needs and supports our earthly life and responsibilities, spirituality guides how we earn, use, and relate to it with integrity and purpose.
This post explores how financial stability and spiritual growth can coexist, helping you view money not as a barrier, but as a 'tool' for service, freedom, and deeper alignment with your highest values. MUST READ the entire post to gain a complete understanding.

The following was written in response to a query we received on our Samadhan WhatsApp group in June 2025. So please read the following in the same context.
★ Money & Spirituality ★
It needs to be understood, that walking on the spiritual path does not need you to 'renunciate' your dreams and desires. In fact, the spiritual knowledge only 'facilitate' these dreams to take shape. Knowing 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐢 𝐚𝐦 gives me 'clarity' in deciding what i truly desire from life.
🌈𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 is not leaving the material wealth and comfort, but leaving the "need" to have them in order to be happy or fulfilled. Spirituality teaches us to enjoy the material abundance, while not being 'attached' to them... and to SHARE that abundance freely with everyone, and particularly with those in need.
The Bhagavad Gita explains this perfectly—"𝘼𝙧𝙟𝙪𝙣𝙖, 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮. 𝘽𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙩. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 '𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛' 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩"
Those saints and sages have NOT abandoned the financial abundance because "it is bad" but because they no longer derive joy from it. Just as you "spit out" a chewing gum once its flavour has run out, you may abandon the chase of 'material comforts' when they no longer facilitate or fulfil your 'spiritual purpose' and the 'inner contentment'.
Right Way to Earn & Use Wealth
Wealth is best used as a tool for stewardship, guided by "moral integrity" and "spiritual principles". This invovles generating it ethically (fair labor, honest dealings), living mindfully (avoiding extravagance and greed, prioritising essential needs), and directing it generously towards reducing suffering (through charity), empowering others (education, opportunity), strengthening communities, and spreading the light and grace of god. True spiritual alignment comes from recognizing wealth as a temporary trust, not personal possession—using it with humility, compassion, and a focus on creating lasting positive impact rather than aiming for self-recognition or glory.
Living With Money
Live with money as a lotus lives in the water. Use it for the good of yourself, your family, and the society. But do not be affected or be attached by its presence. Here are the "key principles" to adopt:
Stewardship: Viewing wealth as a responsibility, not absolute ownership.
Ethical Generation: Ensuring the means of acquiring wealth are just.
Mindful Use: Avoiding waste, excess, and attachment; living simply relative to means.
Generosity & Compassion: Prioritizing giving to those in need and worthy causes.
Empowerment & Justice: Investing in people (education, opportunity) and systemic change.
Community & Environment: Supporting societal well-being and sustainability.
Humility & Detachment: Recognizing wealth's impermanence and avoiding ego-driven use.
Positive Impact: Focusing on creating tangible good beyond oneself.
Please know that it is not wrong (improper) to earn or spend money on yourself or your family. In fact, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 to cause 'joy' to your family using this wealth. It is great to have a lot of money—as this way, you can first find yourself "freedom" to do as you choose, and then also "help others" in need in every way possible. You can build 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 for the homeless & the helpless, build 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 for the poor, and 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 to propogate the river of 'knowledge' and 'values'. All this is possible with right use of money.
The one who has the 'clarity' of the spiritual truth, who walks the path of 𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢, has 'compassion' for all, and the one who is constantly in connection (Yog) with the divine—𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 '𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭' 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.
🪻Therefore, desiring a steady income, a loving relationship, or even a little fame can fuel your journey, bring a spark of purpose in life, and make your life 𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥. But it must be "balanced" with the spiritual truth, principles, and the dharma of every human being.
