Om Shanti,The rituals of any religious ceremony have spiritual origins. The similar goes with the ritual of Kanyadan. When God, the Supreme father (Supreme Soul) came to the world to bestow upon the ignorants the pure knowledge. He took help of pure chaste Kanyas, who gave up the world of vices, world drowned in vices of body consciousness, and surrendered themselves to the supreme being God.These pure kanyas willfully left their past maligned beliefs and surrendered wholly to the will and directions of God. These kanyas gave daan of all their vices, bad habits, worldly wishes and immersed in everlasting bliss of God, and became the Gopis of Shiva (Krishna as per Geeta). This is remembered even know in a form that father gives his daughter in the hands of bridge groom (future husband) to always protect and nurture her.In the present time we are witnessing that many Kumaris (unmarried girls) surrender their life This divine Kanya became so knowledgeful that each Kanya could make fortune for 21 generations and help bring Satyug on earth. This event was copied by people in marriage ceremonies where father would do kanyadan of his daughter to her husband , which is not a welcomed concept by girls as it represents female a mere thing being owned and transferred. And reflect misogyny. But the underlying truth is more divine. Therefore the custom has lost it's true sense and is mere superficial. So performing or not performing the ritual may not have effect as far as there is a consensus of mind between both families.
